A Wedding on The Prairie

Every time I post about something I also begin following it on all social media outlets.  For example, after being so impressed by The Prairie, I decided to do a post on it.   Then I started to follow Rachel Ashwell on facebook and Instagram.  I do this so that if anything new or great is happening I can update things or tell it to my neighbor (that's you)!  I even follow La Croix on facebook and twitter, ha!  Anyway, Rachel Ashwell's instagram has been fun to watch over the past five days because she's been designing and prepping for a wedding at The Prairie.  If you missed it, here are my favorites of her behind-the-scene pictures and videos of the gorgeous wedding:

And if you're like me, then this has you wanting to see more.  You can find more pics on Rachel Ashwell's Instagram or under #howardsforever.  As an extra, if you have the curiosity gene, here's a link to an article on the happy couple who married in this beautiful setting: New York Times.

I hope this wedding was photographed by the knot or something so we can see it published.  Here's one last Instagram I stumbled on, it shows the pom poms and lights at night:

After watching these inspiring Instagrams over the weekend, I have officially added Rachel's new book, Couture Prairie: And Flea Market Finds, to my Christmas wish list on Pinterest. :)

Great Party Supplies Stat

After visiting Party City, Michael's, Hobby Lobby and Target for party supplies and not finding what I needed, I walked to JCPenney.  I thought it was worth a shot and I was hoping for a TITYN surprise.  What exactly was I looking for in party supplies?  I was just brainstorming for my daughter's birthday.  Then as soon as I saw these colorful letters from the top of the escalator, I knew I had found my surprise!

In my brainstorming quests, I'm usually trying to find something out-of-the-ordinary, something high quality and something easily accessible and affordable.  Kind of impossible, but I found it at JCPenney in the MarthaCelebrations section!  I was most excited to find her giant round balloons.  Have you seen them in the pictures of fairytale weddings on Pinterest or in the magazines?:

My sister and I were having breakfast recently and there was a small party going on at a long table.  Floating over this table were 3 giant round cotton candy balloons.  They had such an impact!  No other fluff was needed, the table looked fresh, modern and festive.  I figured the balloons were probably expensive, bought in bulk and only available to the party planning trade.  So I was happy I happened upon them again at JCPenny in every color!

And giant means giant and round means circle/ball.  They are 36" inches in diameter, that's as wide as your front door!  Martha sells them in sets of two for $10.  The green Sweetgrass balloons are on sale online for $7.49.  Here's a close-up:

Next up, I had been exploring disposable table covers that were not plastic.  Martha Stewart read my mind!  Take a look at these paper table covers, they look like hemstitched linen table cloths, tell it to your neighbor!:

These table covers are 108" long by 50" wide and could probably be cut with scissors to fit a smaller card table.  They are $5 and the green is on sale online for $3.69.  I found 10 different colors available at the store (black not pictured):

Now let's talk backdrops, banners and hanging decorations.  Martha has it all at JCP.  One stop shop.  If I could have a photo booth at a party, I'd be using these easy garlands and streamers as the backdrop.
This banner is customizable and great quality:

The hanging decorations are all different shapes, colors and materials.  You'll be able to find the right style for your special party!

If you're gathering supplies for a candy bar at a party, Martha has the candy, containers and the scoops!  Great colors:

Long story short: For our next spontaneous shindig, we now have extraordinary party supplies available to us in small quantities at great prices and just down the street at our nearest JCPenney.  Thank you, Martha!

Dancing Crows

I'm posting an update to the Fun Halloween Finds because these moving crow decoys are awesome!  They even fool me and I'm the one who installed them, ha!  I do a double take every time I pass by the window and see something moving.  Would you be fooled by the birds in my yard?:

I realize the effect would be better if Mickey weren't in the picture but I have a 3 year old and it's Halloween and he's in love!

I was very impressed with size of these flocked birds!  Here's a picture of them with my flip-flop so you can size the set of 3, we call that flip-flop a scale-giver:

I'll keep you posted on facebook to let you know how they do in the rain/weather and how often I have to change the batteries.  I switched them off last night and turned them back on this morning to conserve.  In any event I'm ready with a bag of batteries, because it's worth it!

If you're interested in the Triple Play Motion Crows for yourself, they're made by Lucky Duck.  The best price I found was from Grabagun.com, but it looks like I bought the last of them.  Wait!  I just found a better price from AmeriOutdoors!  I think these decoys are meant to be out for short periods of time but I was willing to take the risk.  My daughter says they're dancing crows!

The Prairie By Rachel Ashwell

We'll never be royals but we sure felt like them at The Prairie By Rachel Ashwell.  Everything about her B&B in Round Top, Texas was beautiful!  My sister, my cousin and I stayed there for just one night and we fell in love with The Prairie.

May I please give you a tour of the grounds and our experience?  The sign in the above picture welcomes you off the main road and then you drive down a perfectly straight dirt driveway towards a white house.  The sign on the house, "HOME ON THE RANGE", will make anyone smile:

Then more signs lead to check-in where the parking spots are unique, more smiles:

The very casual and laid back check-in is located in The Lodge, aka The Office.  This is just the first step to total relaxation:

After we picked up our packet we drove to our reserved house on the property.  Usually we have 5 people on our biannual Round Top trip so The Meadow Manor is perfect.  This time there were only 3 of us so it was beyond luxurious!  This is Meadow Manor:

The second we opened the door to this little big house, the O-M-Gs started flying out of our mouths!  We were just, wow wow wow, look at this, look at that, sit in this, lay down here...  We thought this house was gorgeous!

The bedrooms were so elegant and pretty:

And in this house, sweet dreams are guaranteed!

Dream Catcher
We loved this little bathroom where all the details did not go unnoticed:

They even provided separate labeled washcloths for your make up:

After we absorbed the amazing house we picked up a pizza and a pie in town and then caught up on the front porch:

This pretty white cowhide on top of painted white wood floors became our dance floor:

After a very comfortable night's sleep we had coffee on the porch and headed for breakfast at The Lodge.  Breakfast was made in the open kitchen (pictured below), just like at home.  I felt like I could smell my grandma's pot roast in the oven!

The food and coffee met my high expectations, it was sooooo good!

The lodge is gorgeous as well, it makes you want to stay forever!

I started dreaming of having a barn dance for my 40th birthday in The Prairie's The Pearl Barn!  Wouldn't that be fantastic?!  Take a look at the beauty and let me live that fantasy!:

The Prairie is a marketing genius because after experiencing and living the charm of Rachel Ashwell's Shabby Chic interiors and products, you want them for yourself and your home.  Lucky for us there is a Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic Couture flagship on the property!  And the dog, Pearl, will say good morning to you there:

Here is a little bit of what is inside the store:

We are over the moon about The Prairie Bed and Breakfast and we will be adding it to our Round Top tradition, tell it to your neighbor!  I think I will be visiting more often than just during Antique Weeks in Round Top.  The Prairie is the perfect relaxing retreat for a girls weekend or for a getaway with your sweetheart anytime of the year!

One last thing!  The rusty old Chevy in the previous Round Top post is The Prairie's truck and you can see it as you drive-up to check-in.
